Via Talentum Academy is the result of a life story that we want to share with you. My name is Evelyn Aguilera Arce, Director of VTA, Psychologist, Calligrapher and Documentologist, Master in Documentoscopy from the University of Barcelona; writer and international lecturer in the field of psychology, neuroscript and forensic sciences. Throughout my life I have not only studied and worked, I have also formed a family composed of my husband and 6 children, who have been my greatest inspiration and who have referenced my professional and vocational path. The education of our children has been a whole journey, however, it has also been an enriching experience that has led me to create this school. For a while we decided with my husband to enroll our children in traditional schools, however, the process was not beneficial. My eldest daughter was always an outstanding student, she achieved the best grades, however, when she entered secondary education, she began to show a significant change in behavior; in fact, she then told me that going to school made her lose the meaning of life, because she only studied, had a very long school day from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and that when she got home she only had to do more homework, never rest and less to be able to do what made her happy. This explanation was very revealing for us as a family and it was then that we decided to withdraw her from school and opt for the homeschooling model, which involves studying from home and validating the studies through free exams that are held annually for the Ministry of Education. The student experience of my second son was different, he, unlike our first daughter, was reluctant to study, but loved going to school to play; academics was not his thing, therefore, he did not satisfactorily meet the demands that the school assigned him, however, he was always sociable, enthusiastic, mentally sharp and very intelligent; qualities that he demonstrated in those things that he did like to do. Since his performance was not outstanding, he had to face day by day that his teachers emphasized his shortcomings and implanted in him the idea that he was incapable and that he would hardly stand out in life. When we found out that our son, when going to school, was exposed to the unfounded criticism of unconstructive teachers who were gradually shaping a depressed, withered and hopeless spirit, we decided to withdraw him from the traditional school system and we also opted for the homeschooling model. Having our two older children in homeschooling was one of the most fortunate actions we took, since, thanks to the experience, our children in half the time achieved significant learning of the subjects, with superior comprehensive capacity, thus promoting their self-regulation, self-discipline, will and perseverance. They learned to learn, understood that a grade is not the ultimate goal of the thematic units, which is why they managed to understand that they had to surpass themselves and not a grade. While they learned, they were happy, because they had additional time to do what motivated them (sports, languages, leisure moments). Likewise, with this model they managed to perform excellent university selection tests and enter the law and commercial engineering careers of two outstanding Chilean universities, such as the Pontificia Universidad Católica and the Universidad de los Andes. With this experience we decided to include our four additional children in the same home education model, since the evidence had shown us that it was possible to achieve time efficiency, learning efficiency in a state of happiness and conscious self-regulation, without having to attend a traditional school and without having to submit to the yoke of academic bureaucracy that the ministry of education demands to support, not to satisfy the individual learning requirements of each of the students, but rather, to keep alive a system that in our opinion is outdated and moves away from the criteria of efficiency previously mentioned. Having 6 children in a model that depends on ourselves was a great challenge, since we inevitably had to take charge of designing intelligent curricular structures that responded to the educational needs of each of our children, we had to design content, look for educational platforms, internalize ourselves in technological avant-garde at the service of education and train teachers so that they could act as tutors in this process that seemed crazy, but that in effect, laid the foundations of what is today proposed as a school of the future, I mean Via Talentum Academy. Today I can say with satisfaction that Via Talentum Academy, has emerged from criticism of the traditional teaching system, has emerged from the constructive experience of homeschooling and has emerged to respond to all those families who understand that education in freedom, promotes the manifestation of individual talents and the development of potentials.
